Tonight’s YA Fiction Q&A with Yasmin Rahman

We’re thrilled to welcome Yasmin Rahman, the acclaimed YA author, as guest speaker at tonight’s creative writing workshop and Q&A at North Hertfordshire College. If you love young adult fiction, especially stories that explore real emotions and complex issues, her books are a must-read!

Who is Yasmin Rahman?

Yasmin Rahman is a British Muslim YA author from Hertfordshire with a passion for telling stories that matter. She holds Master’s degrees in both Creative Writing and Writing for Young People, and combines her love of literature, her work in schools and her adult teaching to encourage readers to discover books that speak to them.

Yasmin’s novels are celebrated for their honesty, inclusivity, and emotional depth. Her debut novel, All the Things We Never Said, was nominated for the Carnegie Medal and was a runner-up in the inaugural Diversity Book Awards.

She has also written Why Is Nobody Laughing? and This Is My Truth, continuing her commitment to young adult fiction that reflects the realities and inner lives of teens today.

At this evening’s workshop Yasmin will be sharing her insights into:

  • Writing compelling YA characters — how to create voices that feel authentic to young people
  • Handling difficult themes in fiction, from mental health to identity, with sensitivity and respect
  • Her journey as a writer, from early inspiration to published author
  • And our learners will have the chance to ask their own questions about craft, publishing, and storytelling

Why Yasmin’s Work Matters

What sets Yasmin’s work apart is her ability to tackle heavy emotional themes – such as anxiety, friendship, and belonging – with compassion and clarity. Her novels resonate with young adults, adults and educators alike. Her stories don’t shy away from the hard parts of teenage life, but they also highlight hope, connection, and the importance of being seen.

Don’t Miss Out on Future Opportunities!

We regularly aim to get guest speakers on our workshops which you could be involved in too. Our Wednesday evening classes are for learners who have already attended at least two prior courses and now want to continue their journey refining their craft.
