A year ago today, our friend, my student – Tricia Ramsay was alive and attending our writing classes. She was full of hope and excitement for 2024 and we were honoured to be publishing her debut novel, How to Catch a Rat.
None of us could have known, including Tricia that she would go in to hospital on Christmas day, leaving her two beautiful daughters, and never return home.
Her loss has been devastating. The shock, abrupt, tragic sadness it brought was sometimes overwhelming. It affected me as her tutor and friend and also affected her writing cohort greatly.
Loss can be lessened a small amount the more someone is remembered. We think and speak of Tricia often and will long continue to do so.
We hope we can still respectfully publish her work some day soon as she wanted that more than any writer I have known.
Tricia Ramsay was undoubtedly one of the strongest women I had the luxury to know.
Tricia you are gone but never forgotten and never a truer word has been said.
Our Grab Book collection was designed with you in mind. We often talked about your passion for accessibility and access to reading and writing. The challenges you faced and discussed openly and publicly to raise awareness about dyslexia have encouraged us to push forward with more compact reads. Books that don’t overwhelming.
You live on with your legacy and in our thoughts and ideas. Thank you for being part of our Writing Elephants x
