On Wednesday, June 12th, North Hertfordshire College was bustling with creativity and community spirit as we hosted our alumni literary event. This special evening brought together writers from past and present courses, creating a vibrant mix of experience and fresh talent. Old friends reconnected, new friendships were formed, and everyone shared their journeys and successes. It was a true celebration of the written word and the power of storytelling.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the release of Stevenage Scribblers’ new book, “Word Up.” This anthology features work from our latest talented published writers, and it was created with a noble cause in mind. All profits from “Word Up” are dedicated to supporting Hertfordshire’s homeless charity, Feed Up Warm Up. The JustGiving page set up for this initiative has nearly reached its initial target of £500, thanks to the generosity of our supporters. However, with the release of the paperback version, our sights are set even higher. Every penny raised will go directly to helping the homeless, a cause that is more important than ever with the growing number of rough sleepers in the UK.

Supporting Feed Up Warm Up
Throughout the evening, the sense of community was a joy to witness. Writers who had previously studied at North Hertfordshire College mingled with current students, sharing their progress and offering encouragement. It was inspiring to hear about the many alumni achievements, many of whom have gone on to publish their work both individually and in collaborative projects. These success stories provide excellent drive and motivation for new students, coming in, demonstrating that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible.

There were plenty of networking opportunities, with writers exchanging ideas, tips, and support. It was clear that the bonds formed during their time at the college remain strong. For current students, the chance to learn from those who have already navigated the challenges of the literary world was invaluable.

As the evening came to a close, there was a sense of excitement and anticipation for the future. We are incredibly proud of all our attendees and their accomplishments, and we look forward to hosting many more events that celebrate and nurture the incredible talent within North Hertfordshire College in collaboration with Creative Hats Press.
