CALLING ALL WRITERS: Our Annual Creative Hats Writing Competition Is Now Open!

This is your invitation to join the 2025 Creative Hats Writing Competition — open now and completely free to enter!

This year’s single-word writing prompt is: twist.

And we mean that in the most creative sense possible. A twist in the tale? A twisted rope? A metaphorical twist of fate? Maybe even a bold reimagining of Oliver Twist? However you interpret the word, we want to see what you can do with it. Surprise us, move us, entertain us. The more imaginative, the better.

We’re offering three categories for adult writers aged 18+:

Poetry — 10 to 25 lines
Flash Fiction — up to 500 words
Short Story — 500 to 4000 words

You can submit to one, two, or all three categories — we actively encourage multiple entries!

• Open to: UK residents aged 18 and over
• Cost to enter: £0. Absolutely free.
• Theme prompt: “twist” (use it however you like)

• Attach your work as a Word doc, Google Doc, or PDF
• In your email, include:
  • Your full name
  • Your UK county (only UK entries – sorry!)
  • The best email address to contact you (if different from the one you’re using)
