Who Are Mudlarks?
Hertford’s only vegetarian & vegan café, offering freshly made food with local ingredients, much of it grown on the Mudlarks allotments.
The Mudlarks are a Hertford-based charity supporting adults and young people with learning disabilities and mental health challenges. Through their charitable projects, people learn new skills, build confidence and find purpose in meaningful work — whether that’s at their allotments, as part of gardening teams, or at their community café.
Their Mudlarks Garden Cafe is not only a warm, welcoming spot for great food and drink, it also provides training and paid employment for adults with learning disabilities. Much of the café fare comes from vegetables and produce grown on their own allotments — a plot to plate ethos that we absolutely love.
Mudlarks is widely loved across the town — its founder was honoured with the Honorary Freedom of Hertford for her decades of service to the community.
